Help us build our Multi-Purpose Community Centre
The Islamic Society of Ferness Ottery (ISFO) was established in 2014 with the objective of facilitating congregational prayers, promoting educational advancement and conducting community outreach programs.
We are currently in the process of procuring a 2616 sq meter land, located on Columbine road, Ferness Ottery, to create a space for these activities.
The main objective is to create a Multipurpose Community Centre based on Islamic principles catering for the religious and social responsibilities of the growing community.
ISFO endeavors that this Centre will be approached in an eco-friendly manner, be self sustainable, create income-generating opportunities, thus serving as a hub for the local community.
“Who is he that will lend Allah a goodly loan so that He may multiply it to him many times? And it is Allah that decreases or
increases (your provisions), and unto Him, you shall return.”

Our Vision: A Multi-Purpose Community Centre
** Image is an artistic expression and not the final version of the design
For over 9 years, the Islamic Society of Ferness Ottery has been a cornerstone of the community, providing support and services to those in need. With the development of this community centre, we hope to expand our reach and impact even more people.
The centre will offer a range of services, including educational programs, youth activities, and social initiatives. It will also serve as a place of worship for the local Muslim community.
Our centre is founded on faith, a space that goes beyond religious obligations. A place for connection, education, and support for all members of the community. We offer space and guidance aimed at creating a welcoming, inclusive, and active community ethos that leads to a spiritually uplifted, safer, and healthier community.
Our Proposed Initiatives
Prayer facility & multipurpose hall
Our prayer facility will open into a multipurpose centre providing a range of services, including a prayer area for males and females with separate entrances. It will also have a special area for females with babies and toddlers/elderly ladies, a first-floor accommodation for ladies with a lift for elderly females, and shoe storage areas. Additionally, it will have separate male and female ablution facilities, including wheelchair-friendly toilets and assistance to the blind and visually impaired, a space for social events to accommodate approximately 500 people, and a development that can reconfigure common use areas into a youth activity centre or classrooms.
Resource centre
Our community centre will feature a resource centre with computer workstations, open-access WIFI, and extensive library resources. The centre will be a hub for research, study, and educational support, creating employment opportunities and promoting community growth. By providing access to resources and training, we aim to empower individuals with the skills and knowledge necessary for personal and professional success. Furthermore, it will provide assistance to physically challenged community members, assists with the rehabilitation of substance abuse users as well as facilitate the assisting of the homeless and destitute.
Early childhood development centre (ECD)
Our complex will include an Early Childhood Development (ECD) centre offering daily childcare services for working parents, aftercare facilities, and holiday programs for the community. With registered ECD professionals providing education and care, we aim to prioritize recruitment from within the Ferness area and employ those who are competent and certified to work within the ECD space.
Sustainable development
To promote self-sustainability in our centre will implementing initiatives such as sustainable building design, energy efficiency with solar power systems and wind turbines, water and wastewater management through wudu water recycling and rainwater harvesting, community recycling and waste management, natural ventilation with a roof garden, and preservation of palm trees on the plots. These initiatives are aimed at creating an eco-friendly and self-sustaining space that benefits our community and the environment.
Community Kitchen & Coffee shop
By centralizing our already established food service operations, we aim to enhance the efficiency of our programs and encourage community building and engagement. Our coffee shop and kitchen facilities will provide a space for individuals to work together and interact with under-resourced members of the community. The coffee shop and kitchen facilities will serve as income-generators driving sustainability within the community.
Business Development
To promote business development, we intend implementing initiatives such as providing office space for hot desking with all amenities needed for remote working, setting up a neighbourhood watch meeting room with a control centre, and incorporating shops into the area. Additionally, providing a clinic or dentist space for free medical services to be offered once a month. These initiatives can help create a thriving business community and promote the health and wellbeing of community members.
